Let’s Be Frank Unlimited is the culmination of three years developmental work and is a real opportunity for
widespread recognition for Dance Aware and its artistic collaborators. Since 2008, Dance Aware has been
moving away from community based work towards professional live performance, combining physical theatre,
music and the moving image , working with a group of unique artists working in complementary disciplines. Let’s
Be Frank will consolidate a strong artistic team in delivering both live and screened performance.
Let’s Be Frank fuels Michael’s creative ambitions and those of Dance Aware: to transmit innovative choreographic ideas through an interplay of Butoh with the moving image. Let’s Be Frank marks Michael’s entry into the professional choreographic arena, and therefore has the potential to lead to future work on professional productions and assist in attracting the funding necessary for further professional works. |

Above all we expect our audience to be engaged and entertained: drawn into the themes through the suspense
and surprise of the performance. We also hope that by looking through the lens of Frankenstein’s monster, the
audience will move towards a view of difference as a cause for celebration, rather than a justification for exclusion
and rejection. The audience will be invited to question the relationship between the natural and the artificial: the
use of science to overpower nature with regard to medical science and mechanisation. Let’s Be Frank invites
audiences to think about their position on contemporary medical ethics: on issues such as euthanasia, stem cell
research, cosmetic surgery and prosthetics. We hope that audiences will be self-reflective, whilst being
stimulated by the visual imagery and themes.
